I’ve always been a long hair girl. I like ponytails. Long straight strands. Easy beach waves. No short hair for me.
And then I discovered the pixie. The first short hair style I ever fell in love with.
I took to my new hairstyle so easily and happily, it got me to wondering (just like the woman in the Prego commercial), what else have I been missing?
I think we often get stuck in a style rut. I’ve often heard that whatever style was popular when you were a teen is the style you favor for the rest of your life. We limit ourselves with our narrow views of what we should look like or how we should dress. We say, “Oh, I could never wear that!” or “That hairstyle would make my face look too big.” Or we lock ourselves in by saying, “I’m a jeans and t-shirt kind of girl,” or “It’s vintage all the way for me!”
The truth is we can have multiple style selves. We can be a “t-shirt and jeans girl on Monday, wear a vintage dress on Tuesday and dress in a mod, graphic print on Wednesday. All this exploration is not without purpose. It shows us we have more options than we realize. It increases our confidence as we branch out from our comfort zone.
And we just might find out that we are more than what we first thought.
