Why Don’t You…Try a 30 for 30 Remix?

As I talked about in an earlier post, my first blog was Thrifty Girl Vintage which began just before a Winter 30 for 30 Remix was starting.  If you are not familiar with the term, a 30 for 30 Remix is where you pick out 30 items of clothing, including pairs of shoes, and mix and match only these items for the next 30 days.  The other catch is that every day you have to have a new ensemble.  No two outfits can be exactly the same.  You can spice up your outfits with scarves, hats, belts, gloves, purses and jewelry as these do not count in your 30 items.

You certainly don’t have to be a blogger to try a 30 for 30 remix.  I would encourage anyone to give it a try.  Reading about someone else’s 30 for 30 remix gives you head knowledge but doing it yourself gives you practical knowledge.  You will realize how few clothes you really need and you will be surprised at how creative you can be when faced with limited resources.

When picking out your 30 items you will want quite a few versatile items with a few interesting items thrown in so you won’t get bored.  The items in my first 30 for 30 remix consisted of tops in white (2), brown (2), orange, pale pink, hot pink, black and black/white striped.  Next were Jeans in dark, light and gray denim, as well as pants in black and dark gray.  Also included were a denim skirt, khaki skirt, camouflage print skirt, black skirt and a basic black dress.  Vests and cardigans were used to change up the looks.  Two vests were chosen, one denim and one olive military style.  My last three items of clothing were cardigans in orange, purple and bright blue.  For shoes, there were brown fur-trimmed shoes, black patient shoes, vinyl rain boots, sweater boots and a pair of black slip-ons.

After you choose your 30 items, put them together in a special area of your closet or on a free standing rack in your bedroom.  These are the only clothes you’re going to wear for the next 30 days!

Remember, scarves, belts, hats, gloves, purses and jewelry are just like celery on a diet…they don’t count!  Wear as many as you want.  Use all you have.  Try new combinations.

This Winter 30 for 30 Remix took place in February.  The idea is that by the time you are close to the end of a season you are tired of your clothes and are longing for the next season to begin.  So you take advantage of your wardrobe malaise, by doing a remix.

Here is my Winter 30 for 30 Remix from February 2011.

On the last photo I was giving a big “thumbs up” for making it to the finish line!

Later that year I joined in a Spring 30 for 30 Remix.  I’m not sure how popular remixes are these days, but I would like to do a Summer and a Fall Remix so I can at least have completed one for each season.

I hope I’ve encourage you to consider doing a remix.  Maybe in the future we can join up and do one together!

Live your lemonade life,

Debbie
