Something Beautiful Every Day: Pink

ObjectIt makes me happy that someone would have PINK RIMS!

objectMy grandma’s old porch rocker.  Underneath the pink are layers of shades of green and a red even my mom doesn’t remember.pinkhairMy daughter and I bought pink wigs at Otakon 2015 and had a lot of fun with it!  I felt shy about posting this photo but I ended up deciding to use it because my daughter was excited for both of us to buy wigs and wear them AND she commented on how not many moms my age would be having fun with this and she liked that I would enjoy this with her.

My mom feels young at heart even though she is 86.  I feel young at heart no matter how the years pile on.  The truth is that age doesn’t matter.  It’s how you feel inside that matters.  And those of us who like to have fun  shouldn’t feel shy about showing who we are.  So wear your big hair, pink wigs, vintage clothes or whatever it is that makes you beam inside.

Be Bold.  Be You.  Be Happy.

Debbie

Rescue Kitty and Leopard

A few weeks ago my daughter discovered a stray kitten wandering around my mom’s yard.  It’s eyes were running, it had no hair on it’s nose, but she thought he was beautiful.  We brought him home and gave him a steady diet of food, water and love.  Look at him now!

Like cats everywhere, he has to be in the action.

What I’m wearing:  Just a casual outfit for errands and lunch out with my mom.  Leopard cardigan, Belks.  White shirt, thrifted.  Jeans, rue21.  Red tennis shoes, Target.  Red heart earrings, Claire’s.  Leather belt, Eddie Bauer.  Note:  A sales clerk at Eddie Bauer told me their items are guaranteed for life.  Just save your receipts.  So this is my BELT FOR LIFE.

Namu is curious about the flashing light and clicking noises.

Namu followed me around as I made pictures documenting the changing of the seasons. Sometimes, I’m so caught up in what I’m doing that I miss the gradual changes.  I catch the first tinge of gold and then the next time I remember to look up it’s a full blaze or reds, oranges and golds.  I promised myself that this year I would stop and smell the goldenrod.  Which would be a bad idea since it fires up my allergies, but you know what I mean.

Live the Life You’ve Always Dreamed Of

OOTD

I always dreamed of being a writer.  Besides blog posts and columns, I write poetry, essays and short stories.   I keep looking for new ways to make my dreams come true.

What dreams do you have?  Are you working on making them come true?

I’m participating in Share-in-Style this week with the ever lovely Sacramento.  She inspires me with her style AND with the thoughtful posts she sometimes shares.  Our Share-in-Style prompt is “Summer” and nothing says summer to me more than summer brights.  I found this midi/maxi skirt at Goody’s and fell in love with it’s versatility.  I wore it here as a midi skirt.  Halfway through the day, I pulled it down into a maxi.  I love the versatility of the wide waistband that can be folded or not for differing lengths.  I like this style so much I have also bought one in black and one in a gray and black stripe.  What says “summer” to you?

Girls Day Out

My best friend and I were planning a day out.  Our first question after deciding where we were going was “WHAT ARE WE GOING TO WEAR?!?”

I need to build an outfit and I want it to be girly.  I start with a pink scarf.

Add some over-the-top earrings…

Big girls can still like “Hello Kitty”, right?

With all this color noise, I need to turn down the volume with some neutrals.  Part of our day will involve a walk, so I want to be comfortable and casual.  I add a white top and denim shorts.  Pile on a bold ring to match the earrings and a pink flower vintage pin and I’m good to go.

What I’m wearing:  Scarf, local store.  White top, Belk’s on sale.  Denim shorts. Walmart.  Belt, Eddie Bauer Outlet.  Earrings, retail store.  Ring, local store.  Purse, Burke’s.  Flip-flops, local store.  Vintage flower pin.

OOTD

I’ll post next time about our girl’s day out and show you the final version of what I ended up wearing.  We had an unusual day in a place we just discovered!

Until next time…live your lemonade life!

Love and Danger

Pink signifies love, romance and friendship.  Red signifies danger, energy and passion.  Put them together and you get a a dangerous friendship, an energizing romance, a passionate love…or maybe just a brilliant color combination.

pin

Red and pink together remind me of Molly Ringwald’s red hair and pink dress in Pretty in Pink.  It’s a cute, fun and girly combination.

Walmart Statement Necklace: Are You a “Mart” Girl?

Some people would not be caught dead at Walmart.  I’m not one of those people.

I am just as comfortable at Walmart as I am at Louis Vuitton or at a thrift store.  I love the whole idea of high-low.  Give me a thrift store skirt and a top from Walmart paired with a designer anything and I’m happy.

My mom and I were picking up some things at Walmart a couple of weeks ago and she found a display of ten dollar statement necklaces.  We each picked out our favorites and I came away with this pastel stone and crystal vintage inspired number.

My favorite “Mart” store is Target but it’s quite a ways from where I live.  Walmart and Kmart, however, are close by.  And who doesn’t like picking up something “fun” when you’re in the middle of picking up the week’s groceries.

What I’m wearing:  Dress, Maurice’s.  Grey cardigan, thrifted.  Silver shoes, Shoe Show.  Vintage earrings, my grandma’s.  And of course…Statement necklace, Walmart.
